We <em>LOVE</em> BVI and have made some terrific memories by visiting that island country in the Caribbean. Our friends, Trevor and Shelli Larson, invited us to go this year. Since Rick has his sailing credentials for chartering a sailboat, he was asked to go along and captain the boat. We gladly accepted!<br /><br />This trip brought with it new friends, new adventures, new places, and new memories. We were happy to not only spend time with Trevor and Shelli, but to also get to know better the Heidens and the Despains.<br /><br />Here are some highlights from the trip. (Between Rick and me, we took almost 900 pictures!)<br /><br /><br /><div align="center"><em>Naturally, we have to have the picture in the plane. I just looked over the past 3 months of blogs I started but haven't posted and there are NINE incomplete and unpublished posts for me! And unfortunately, once you get behind, it's hard to catch up! I think this summer has been so crazy with activities and work that blogging was just on the bottom of my priority list. I'm still 3 1/2 years behind on scrapbooking and getting further behind every day! Thank you, friends, who are still keeping up on your blogs! I do read yours, I just don't post mine. I will try to work backwards and catch up a little. :-)Theresa Halversonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03598990677627850413noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8838749141398657923.post-80295259114498146722009-08-02T19:24:00.000-07:002009-08-12T21:30:15.695-07:00My 29th Birthday!(Okay, it is really my 44th birthday -- but don't tell!) For my birthday this year, Rick took me to Central Oregon for a weekend of fun and relaxation. We camped at Paulina Lake outside of Bend, then drove to our destinations from there. The area was SWARMING with mosquitos to the point that it was completely miserable, but when we drove into the resort community of SunRiver where the trailhead is for our first bike ride, we discovered what an incredible little place this is and we completely fell in love with it! The first thing we noticed was that the community sprayed for mosquitos!! We were mosquito-free!<br /><br />Our plan was to mostly mountain bike -- which we did on the first day -- riding 24 miles round trip up and back along the Deschutes River. I only fell a couple of times and only skinned one knee! Whoo hoo! Once we rode out of the protection of SunRiver, we immediately noticed the appearance of mosquitos everywhere. We couldn't stop for fear of being eaten alive, so we rode for three straight hours without any rest. Later that afternoon, we relaxed at one of the two swimming pools back in SunRiver until we were hungry enough to drive into Bend for dinner (Johnny Carino's -- yum). Then we drove back to our campsite for a good night's sleep. Unfortunately, at the restaurant, we discovered that Rick had lost his camera somewhere in SunRiver and all of our pictures were lost with it. We still haven't found it, but are hoping that it will be turned in to the SunRiver police!<br /><br />The next day, we slept in then took a lazy float down the Deschutes River, stopping at a couple of rope swings along the way. We ate lunch at a park, then drove to Bend to catch a movie. We had some time to kill before the movie so we walked along the river in Bend and got a bite to eat. While in the movie, a huge storm moved in and the power went out in the movie theater -- twice. We could hear the thunder rumbling around outside. The winds were also blowing and howling, but by the time we got back to our tent, the rain, wind, lightning, and thunder had all stopped!<br /><br />We packed up early Sunday morning and drove home. The funniest part of the story is that when we got home, we noticed a bat hit my bike that was strapped to the top of my car. I must have hit him the night before and he rode there all day. This is the only picture of our trip I have: <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5365568856128322594" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjprGhFMYDzZZv0IoDk8kIJ4dM7y3mJIn1eWXRDwEEam4CuIbef-KQY0ZDpWBL9D__egOA9w5O69ipzVjU3ENI8uM7eCqAJgqcpXGMakFxRSd-2fHtTtPg6oJoj9Cs_YiI4Vp7HNKf2oiJN/s400/IMG_3638.jpg" border="0" /><br /><br />When we got home, the kids had made this nice birthday cake for me! :-)<br /><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5365568861889353714" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBPaffyWe4XYcM_viqdOkEqVtxzrF6RUrAqe2491k_hRa3Uj8xrzBtFoAVDRc2LuaCVE3MhtFzU0OUSpunkuoHFVvBoEdliqk6dH1jOOc1u2tIcngNeQAqU5Xr-4YjgaYI8H3FFBsRB7pd/s400/IMG_3640.jpg" border="0" />Theresa Halversonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03598990677627850413noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8838749141398657923.post-90190822402104507102009-07-23T19:57:00.000-07:002009-08-25T20:31:33.692-07:00Backpacking, Painting, Silverwood, and a Headache<div align="center">Rick and Chase were gone this week backpacking with the Scouts...<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV5sEI5D84eC8xUq0G3_A60NqOvAZ3fqAjt_CczlpuU2Xh_-6gYS_dLY3Yx5w5dXtSaHYQxH1-ooEosWYriS_20-j7MwQ60BJilqqbev1aS9ZyoETjRSl4lJ93ql3gUkQyPAzULJGJz6dk/s1600-h/Eagle+Cap.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5374103767056335538" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV5sEI5D84eC8xUq0G3_A60NqOvAZ3fqAjt_CczlpuU2Xh_-6gYS_dLY3Yx5w5dXtSaHYQxH1-ooEosWYriS_20-j7MwQ60BJilqqbev1aS9ZyoETjRSl4lJ93ql3gUkQyPAzULJGJz6dk/s400/Eagle+Cap.jpg" border="0" /></a> ...so I promised the girls we would do something fun. After sitting with his hands on an instrument case for 21 hours (from 6:30 p.m. Friday night to 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon) he beat out 27 other students in the Tri-Cities in order to be the grand prize winner. He kept his concentration, stayed awake, paced his eating and drinking, and was a very good sport watching kids drop out of the competition one-by-one. Chase and a 7th grade girl were the last two contestants for about the last two hours and were both rock solid. The girl made one slip and raised a thumb to make Chase the winner. As a family, we all took turns being Chase's support crew, staying with him to help him stay awake and feed him when he needed it. Tara took the toughest shift (from midnight to 4:30 a.m.). Aaron and Kendall even called a couple of times to check in and encourage Chase. Chase was extremely happy that his determination and persistence totally paid off and he loves his new saxophone! My only question is this: If he can sit THAT still and under control for 21 hours, why can't he sit still for one hour of church?</div><div></div><div>This is Chase at the beginning of the competition. I fed Chase, put his water right next to him with a very long straw, and gave him a dose of a 5 hour energy drink. Right at the end of the 21 hours was when Chase's competition slipped up and raised her thumb. It was heartbreaking to see her lose after lasting for 21 hours, but we were very proud of Chase for sticking this out and working hard to accomplish his goal. Today was one of those "different" times and I think his reason might have been all three. He approached me at lunchtime and said, "I just made California Pup Tents" for lunch. Then he showed me this:<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5335125569321715122" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 256px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFwu-bHPVLT8MYoRDOGDEYU02g-bA-XHocgSjzqWl_QwpQLLhygCzI6Jw8lRSImm84ZeJyor1ySezDKrW5ra5l6Gn4fsC9Cyk68BFooZrzGkp2IcRe8SDYS_EnHT9pKYUguoJ6fuPHWevk/s400/California+Pup+Dogs+1.jpg" border="0" /> <div>Do you know why I call them "California Pup Tents"? Because they are hot<em> dogs [pups]</em> with <em>tents</em> over them, and when I microwave them, they melt just like the people in the <em>California</em> wild fires. Like this:</div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgvRxYm1_QCW98T6T2QRTLD-Euqsi2p30_Bxp3Yds9YoBu5M4wuSLxqV_2FtePoeiFa3-aLNFCFECAK4H-W44lS5wwKq4LQmEH0-BraRvn_58HXIB5uskSOVuzLaELJgz6Hb1hJ2Blo_5f/s1600-h/California+Pup+Dogs+2.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5335125574499985458" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 282px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgvRxYm1_QCW98T6T2QRTLD-Euqsi2p30_Bxp3Yds9YoBu5M4wuSLxqV_2FtePoeiFa3-aLNFCFECAK4H-W44lS5wwKq4LQmEH0-BraRvn_58HXIB5uskSOVuzLaELJgz6Hb1hJ2Blo_5f/s400/California+Pup+Dogs+2.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />I laughed so hard. Prom 2009<div>After two weeks of stressing over Whitney's prom dress, it's complete and Whitney wore it beautifully! I won't tell you about all the mistakes I made or how many seams I had to undo or even all the mistakes that I just had to cover up in the end. I'm not sure that I'll ever do this again, but I'm glad that Whitney was happy with the dress and that she had a good time at Prom. Whitney could make a potato sack look glamorous! Thank you Sarah and Stefani for doing her makeup and Kim Craigo for doing her hair. Whitney looked absolutely gorgeous! Thanks Jake for showing Whitney a good time!<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334314353058002786" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqq9eAn1Lw0Fz07FXr6Zaqo-UFGVaRURAjpjix2QLxOslyDG0ysntF5Fz5r7wpCQGUV4YIy9cl3h5PuAbmTgmszxN_obKNbS9Wxsr566mvejaEtH265LpLxLXkadt6wKkOkPDH8mWSKqXF/s400/IMG_2999.JPG" border="0" /></div><div><div><div><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHNzBKulN99a7i13F7Np5AG6WzTb-rkjKDKD3yS6_oByUhp7CZJw4o5ic7Y_MK3-hACLZb4m8BI0PPfaYomNQfmoCMUlpVyvx336swfvUrLdf2JccT8xfyEnbwbzIZ8c1jITZ7XiTXbDRK/s1600-h/IMG_2991.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334314348854490162" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHNzBKulN99a7i13F7Np5AG6WzTb-rkjKDKD3yS6_oByUhp7CZJw4o5ic7Y_MK3-hACLZb4m8BI0PPfaYomNQfmoCMUlpVyvx336swfvUrLdf2JccT8xfyEnbwbzIZ8c1jITZ7XiTXbDRK/s400/IMG_2991.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvy246WdXhCOBOxMKRDCBY4hdo9s1FpQQd3dBzx-moLmiQZB3acpnmhOy1n5UA_mp01G_8vr3Cm5TqzS9oSmUXJNabaWShDzzPIQ4Qe9nVVOzn_t8eWfzqFzR8c-WwJQ2r7Xue9-nTQvAh/s1600-h/IMG_2988+trim.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334314345038415778" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 267px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvy246WdXhCOBOxMKRDCBY4hdo9s1FpQQd3dBzx-moLmiQZB3acpnmhOy1n5UA_mp01G_8vr3Cm5TqzS9oSmUXJNabaWShDzzPIQ4Qe9nVVOzn_t8eWfzqFzR8c-WwJQ2r7Xue9-nTQvAh/s400/IMG_2988+trim.jpg" border="0" /></a> <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334314356262467282" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQfMzFwG7yaz_rG4iuWvVCxjWB29FGDlOWSDYaywfgM3vhNX0Ks0PL1jvjDGNffVHjFHqMXDhrw9F_Rtg5hc2Jm2pXbTZtKgbNjsVi8BOAsLMSXN7szLKYUXE5v-J884mcyXIepa-3wLk3/s400/IMG_3005.JPG" border="0" /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334314846743812354" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFs877sfBIOm_nzgVp1kixNQhidCECxDnHiiW6lTRGr4NF52cNG_-oFDr9hOriOznR_4xZXwtWlBl67_KLqFIbYVKOwK_-n1g064YjBPo3F3UIOmg0ABH3seYmPwrhw56vlzhlVSB6Jo7s/s400/IMG_3010.JPG" border="0" /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334314844609849922" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 267px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhESeFOmlAFioH9KByixc9wrP0f6uttj_kgBRdnzTI7rSrTYHV0BJkSto5nMEVxKKIFzxt1yqarNj678Kd1iI5dUx3loSDPxGotDSgV4vdbpEwEU8G6ehZUNKUTW2UB5SZQmE_qjGqbbaqQ/s400/IMG_3008+trim.jpg" border="0" /></div></div></div></div></div>Theresa Halversonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03598990677627850413noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8838749141398657923.post-18630512147991167142009-05-08T06:21:00.001-07:002009-05-08T06:23:41.271-07:00Prom Dress Pursuit - Part 4I'm nearly done now -- had a fitting on Whitney last night and it fits and looks great except for one (really two) parts, so I need to add a little something to make it fit better. Hopefully, once it's done, you'll never know I did something different. Tomorrow is prom so I better get sewing!Theresa Halversonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03598990677627850413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8838749141398657923.post-73104155710401689902009-05-06T07:01:00.000-07:002009-05-06T07:02:48.568-07:00Prom Dress Pursuit - Part 3Just when I thought I was almost done...I have to make a major change now.<br />It's time to get my seam ripper sharpened! Sweet 16 and never been kissed -- really. Tara has a never-ending bubbly personality. Her giggle is sweet, the way she gets my attention is sweet (she tickles my elbow), and even the way she sneezes is sweet. Don't let her little body fool you, though. She can be one tough cookie and a real tiger. Nothing intimidates or stops her and I really admire that in her. Tara is a good girl and has a very sweet spirit about her. She is extremely helpful to me and a complete joy! ^5<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8QnRj0CFevKnUR09Pi76VkuNq1yWGBcHt48EHV9TNTQod0z7Ws2uOOXR5Whpk6sDDP0h1kdQQL9PL9pbvfRhDNuXwx4gsKXGPFJt-YNeW_g6-1-5MN1RJhrmD_smxCM9JHcJy-Qakn1K5/s1600-h/IMG_2978.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332345100047275362" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8QnRj0CFevKnUR09Pi76VkuNq1yWGBcHt48EHV9TNTQod0z7Ws2uOOXR5Whpk6sDDP0h1kdQQL9PL9pbvfRhDNuXwx4gsKXGPFJt-YNeW_g6-1-5MN1RJhrmD_smxCM9JHcJy-Qakn1K5/s400/IMG_2978.jpg" border="0" /></a>Right after prayer this morning, armed with four cans of Silly String, we surprised Tara and covered her with hues of pink, blue, green, and purple (just to show her how much we love her). Then, of course, we spent the next 10 minutes picking it out of her hair so she could leave for school. I was on a 20 mile bike ride with Rick this afternoon, and with only about 1/2 mile to go, I found a wallet sitting next to the bike path. I stopped, looked around, and saw nobody, so I picked it up and stuck it in my pocket. When I got back to the car with Rick, I took it out to look for some identification. The wallet WREAKED of cigarettes and liquor. I found the man's name and address, so Rick and I decided to drive to his home to return the wallet. He lives in the trailer park on Clearwater across from Winco (for those of you not in the Tri-Cities, it's a total dump). We looked for a manager's trailer, but instead saw two police cars sitting in front of an old RV. We decided to just give the wallet to the police and (here's the funny part) they were parked in front of the man's trailer (who lost the wallet). We were told that they had a search warrant and found a sawed off shotgun and a grenade in the trailer and were waiting for the bomb squad to arrive. He said that the trailer park is one big meth lab. Rick and I just laughed as we waved to the policeman and drove away. Rick said, "You have to blog this story. This was funny!"Theresa Halversonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03598990677627850413noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8838749141398657923.post-38227377880261890292009-05-01T22:15:00.000-07:002009-05-04T18:22:35.535-07:00Seminary Senior Recognition DinnerTonight was the seminary senior recognition dinner for the graduating seniors, so Rick and I went with Whitney. Everything was nice, from the dinner to the entertainment to the slide show. There was a photographer who took a picture of each student with their parents. Here's ours. I put together the bodice today and tried it on Whitney and she LOVES it! I'm so excited. She also likes the sparkly lace on the bodice so we're keeping it. I just have a make a small (yes, Whitney, I said small) adjustment to the bust so it won't gap, but otherwise, it's coming along! I have sewn since I was a little girl and have made many, many things, but never anything as important as a prom dress. Whitney wanted something different from everyone else (she's had a couple of years with the same dress as someone else -- tragic!). I'm a little nervous (don't tell Whitney) because I want it to be perfect for her! She picked out the pattern (see below) and color (golden yellow). If all goes as planned, it will be beautiful!</div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCvutq9KjpF1P9-H0VzbdobcApVxBabOjAenunhpZ6oyyHl7feD7rnTClS-3NM_SLRFgmCJQJcLa7wJdfj8VirqPf-LA79e6RTjVU2lDDHzt58sFSWatMYljLafYWozxeup_82H-IrEpy5/s1600-h/img050.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5330146635996058786" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 271px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCvutq9KjpF1P9-H0VzbdobcApVxBabOjAenunhpZ6oyyHl7feD7rnTClS-3NM_SLRFgmCJQJcLa7wJdfj8VirqPf-LA79e6RTjVU2lDDHzt58sFSWatMYljLafYWozxeup_82H-IrEpy5/s400/img050.jpg" border="0" /></a> <div>We're doing the white version with a sparkly lace over the bust (maybe -- if it looks good). (They were a lower league team that was "promoted" to professional MLS status this year.) He has been following the team and knows all the players, their positions, stats, etc. They have been undefeated so far and are the team to watch this year. Aaron wanted nothing more than to go to a game in Seattle before he left for college, but nothing was working in his favor (ticket availability, cost, Aaron's availability, someone to go with, etc.). We slightly appeased him by buying him a team jersey that he absolutely LOVED! </div><div><br />Rick decided to surprise him by taking him to a game last Saturday and was able to secure some mid-field tickets at only 200% of the original cost! Talk about a bargain! Aaron and Rick drove to Seattle, walked along the streets with the other fans and band into the stadium, and bought all the paraphernalia they could get their hands on (license plate frame, large flag, small car flag, soccer ball, and scarf -- they were out of the hats). Unfortunately, the Sounders experienced their first loss because the goalie was red carded. Aaron was sad, but was more happy that he got to go to the game! They had a great time! Go Sounders!</div>Theresa Halversonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03598990677627850413noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8838749141398657923.post-56175185099643033852009-04-07T18:54:00.000-07:002009-05-04T18:25:43.708-07:00Spring Break<div align="left"><span style="font-family:arial;">We had a great Spring Break in Southern Utah and had been planning it for several months. Each one of the kids took part in planning some part of the week. The first day (Saturday) was consumed with Rick and I riding the Tour de St. George Century while the kids walked to the local fun center and played miniature golf, raced the go-carts, and went to a movie. Later that evening, we all went out to a nice Italian restaurant to celebrate Kendall's 20th birthday. Here's what we did the rest of the week:</span><br /></div><div align="left"><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;"><strong>Sunday - Zion National Park</strong></span><br /></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326623077484143666" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1hTDNuXYkHf8zaMEGYwCxUfMFO4L9VXLK11PYz0S-DsnhV5_0hBtyP-YE7o8bgWgAO0M_YRzg1njqYh4DoWu2e1DS4bqT3ix6gxX-p9OLNf9q4Gw5qEex9FpCv-GPTKYqCbEuQw_wDgsd/s320/IMG_2482_2.jpg" border="0" /><br /><span style="font-family:arial;">Aaron chose this hike -- called the "Hidden Canyon" hike. It was a only a mile each way, but it was about 1,000 ft. ascent in that mile. We had to park about 1.5 miles away from the trailhead, so we had to hike to the trailhead. After we reached the top, there was another mile of the "hidden canyon" that we hiked through, scrambling over and under rocks, and exploring all we could see, until we reached the end of the canyon. As we were hiking along the road back to the RV, we passed a little herd of deer about 15 feet away from us, eating grass, and they didn't run away. We hiked about 6 miles on this hike. This was a four star hike!<strong><span style="font-size:130%;"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326623071144506754" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTa4E008-y9c3ZK2w8WyFOEC8UQfSBybG5ZXkrawe97qkukUPWLzj06Bxyfa7IdzDCFu7b2HMtq5kXoDM-nvyxtjqiRQgwx0wqo0FdjIHv1086BOuczPjyGy8xqIG4vwcjCh9OaCyO4g4U/s320/IMG_2479_2_filtered.jpg" border="0" /></span></strong></span><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326623085042115490" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZEdOZgMkuOmE8pLq1qL8hEDwAn0yjYBMUfn6t54-mkf4mMDA2cmssEW5i6pzS8x0Ny1KAhl3vHGChodW5dLyXD6lF2W-CcZiXaP1DV1coEpfxoY0SsAw4fmwK96MPVpq8qTwHRq5GpPq2/s320/IMG_2486.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326623091760249218" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh182c5B7EggfK3NEGwZr_QY9DCXjCImg2qF0wqP7d3g0jx2FGgi9PVegKcYFjblvlSulSgyJXXGMjdke6jxo0ZiwG3I0JwsGTUghraMbnJuUphp0n3t90ca4JRjsnDvOqKzKrS1WXD7okd/s320/IMG_2489.JPG" border="0" /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326624796369838146" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2IwuCiZ3CV7YiZkPxqLMzS-GUJq66dS35kSkwr0xz5driCKHuKLz1iBxt8pJvj7fWTEPm_p6vQLpNWkP1WIWkspc0JRDUFG7Ow29Wy1PyGB9MokNXzPloU4UeH3DjlhxUwfd8ZQ4DCrB0/s320/IMG_2511_2.jpg" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326624801311809634" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTW-ondQZNYCs-bRATa3XyTSbafXvmyhqN9u6OVGDVLSJg6NrAG7bJTaVOFB17hEFvc8Pg2d07JPzFaC-_hCtO48PXl0SNqjTmw6cXWLn4MKHSbbRti67ttMeg7Txk4IO6DLiVW-bpbbGf/s320/IMG_2529_2.jpg" border="0" /><br /><strong><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;">Monday - Goblin Valley State Park</span></strong><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326627654203583986" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9gpP2dMQKT_UOw47WWkOfuN_z26-UZ22bz9hb3ybMt-a0jLqrXOa7CjHLpqDOgeJ5wy7qxYjivzbzQZjk16QvwSgZnggSZ9bshpMVaRvRhskmmWsSm1XtdDnHweTn-1HpQ-Ycbxjm6so1/s320/IMG_2543_2.jpg" border="0" /><br /><span style="font-family:Arial;">The morning here was spent playing "Sardines" and "Hide and Seek" in the hoo doos. It serpentines back and forth and up and down. We had a great time scrambling up and over choke stones, dry water falls, and through very narrow parts of the canyon! We took the loop through Bell Canyon, which is a much wider canyon and not as impressive, although it opened up with some beautiful vistas. We hiked a little over 8 miles in Little Wild Horse loop. After that, we went to the Fiery Furnace and hiked around. We found a new way in that was much more beautiful and adventurous. Inside the Fiery Furnace, it SNOWED!!! We never felt really cold, though, because we were running around so much. We got lost at one point and luckily found a ranger-led tour and followed them to where the trail was again familiar. We planned our best and longest hike for this day. The campgroud was full, but we had some incredible luck and found one campsite open. Naturally, we scooped it up immediately. Our hike started from the campground in the Needles District and it went five miles to the edge of Chesler Park. We hiked an additional two miles to the Joint Trail, then hiked around for about a mile on the Joint Trail. The Joint Trail as totally cool -- it was a a crack in the rock that, at some points, was just barely wide enough to squeeze through. There was one section that Rick and I couldn't fit through, but all the kids made it through. We hiked a total of 15 miles here. This was a four star hike!</span><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326637783339203106" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgtORLiH5iOscpTQ6KMlVxCWxFjwdaqb9iS0IRa4MTooHtz6pwztDj6lnzA4TYvb7XxFAm920gPPWakjzbBj4JvOESe14c0byuIoi2Q0lwk2FLaTmdPkDCj_rmrCV5hRCiNyZ0m1H3YYgf/s320/IMG_2907.JPG" border="0" /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326639564103331138" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSerR_Vq5GsKLMzE2J59Vvc1YHnGix6Idt2mzWL-72w1bCIpJQshsrOozcMe9vlMSyF-nSV4F7mnl1Svb6xSa9-4bWuuiR2LgVozzE4Ya4vtG3zjWWTqNUkHhsIUPe3qWyhGgTvIzHgjXB/s320/IMG_2820.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326639561992421586" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgyayPvCwzqCMEBnGsxAyoK6-iAcxW4j2t3w80xcCTfih7ylE9KZDQpBo-Pp9IkOslokT9uOsQjvRI7vdW_grMLQ9qO-YlM2471wZnO3OWbCjDMweZDg6P-qbhFQPxUGDht-iTbf6OtY9X/s320/IMG_2850.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326637790596209026" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGlv10sz4GY1rYijxip7S7Lq-ka55bX75rXm9xXGDgq-G_CX65UxUpYSyvdt-Xu6e83jXFV8dKDc0apbGtvrhC4flB0frNCAESrwBX857KK-N8-KFRYyxxFbNV8nFEqp0QDMvTUVJCSQkw/s320/IMG_2905_2.jpg" border="0" /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326637793851868002" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOv1lFM_2itmA_SN-sQUhiiEGfr3ZCUMmeamaMDw-cpuemqHFpwaSvFmrvcLd1TIwzOQEuqTx-adwYnSH-IACpial1v3Ew27ECiC6mCUFOY8gvtBXGh_zb6tpfr83W4ahojQnxv8erDHP0/s320/IMG_2902.JPG" border="0" /></p><p align="center"><span style="font-family:arial;">Chesler Park<br /></span></p><br /><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326637788016377458" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV-cV1XKrWGiXZ7juSOv55YC7nxe43F12qCE4h_gXmEyOGO7XGvmvYkliRnWRZ6G6DTfWjmaHtIEPFadHohjjPNfLNJKq3yLKbOuF5tkoAOAKIk3moHk7MfyK9USPzL-2waMbZXw5c7N64/s320/IMG_2906.JPG" border="0" /></p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5330150099412733474" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 250px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2plDyl66tfvOEsckNcynohjOFPvL3SWAqlFvVOG7eIox82kCy6ZIIvS14lhzI216QXRy1JbkjX3eMyq-vqDb7XBgLDBZ-DpdNkjfPy9Ykk0kW12f9xbA1uUEszheY_-jEVm3G7QLsO6xk/s400/Chesler+Park.jpg" border="0" /> <p align="center"><span style="font-family:arial;">Aerial view of Chesler Park</span><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326638879218316354" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQSn5ju7wsjqwJUYDG2bTGe0sCyDzDCKWHoskRi26fh6iI0iimhzrzmpjsbNwW48JtSBbh6qE_vpK1KZq2Wlk2bxq736-ed5zhmEkiKvF5B03qAgnIEbV-KUw03o65tahJNFhk2VjEdEy4/s320/IMG_2879.JPG" border="0" /></p><p align="center"><span style="font-family:arial;">Joint Trail</span><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326638874659561042" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxkPHyW-ZXvxHYOt_fofQ_VlKMy5lPbpqFoqBjuWgMZUOWy3Rl8qKzQq7g_lr0jo61m9vlv7yZBHV3pLrL1V6GVMkU6xddZ7SmjIYEpfuNXen24nC4NAnBJD989dIhwPVY-F-l1Y_xFzk0/s320/IMG_2885.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326638869989437426" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBhrnr6SmzY4C2QA4NzZwfvMiXpgQv_CoBry1DkDyweVAYh1quoC3Prb8lILVBGsAX4pvxzgF6pBQ9KU9SLqAR1w9yw4jTyPXqsvTxhaS-L9qGBgrEXy8ff_O-OSYVrnOMqvG8OceaESMr/s320/IMG_2887.JPG" border="0" /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326638863592687586" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgODLf5xEzpNLYG43cYZ6PYKNGwaxn3K0sTsAHvQyD9HSHqa-mwPF5qUOEWwD4zhQFIeU7M34HgIqOLg0H1uvIbORD3mSxHexHYQnJhPsXUftUHs6-tR9v_lKNgiwRaDBmghyC5ukEsoobS/s320/IMG_2891_2_filtered.jpg" border="0" /></p><span style="font-family:Arial;">Friday we left Canyonlands, drove north, and visited my dad in Spanish Fork then drove to Logan to be with Rick's mom. It was probably the hardest thing I've ever made my body do -- EVER! Rick and I knew there would be a lot of hills, but we figured we could make our bodies do anything for one day, right? We prepared moderately well for this ride and were blessed with excellent weather -- about 75 degrees, clear, sunny skies, and no wind. It was perfect...at least until we got our bikes out the morning of the ride to get started and noticed that one of Rick's spokes was broken on his rear wheel.<br /></div><div>We sadly went to the start of the ride and watched 400 riders take off without us. We took the wheel to a bike shop and they had it fixed within about 30 minutes. So Rick and I got ready and left about 45 minutes behind the pack. We rode along, feeling great, until we missed a turn (because we both misread the street sign -- go figure) and pedaled an extra 15 minutes or so until we realized our mistake. We got back on track and then missed a second turn (not our fault this time because the road was not marked) and pedaled another extra 20 or so minutes. By this time we're more than an hour behind the pack with no hope of catching up.<br /></div><div>When we reached our first hill, we pedaled up without a problem and felt great. Going up our second hill was when everyone going back passed us on the other side of the road. We continued to ride, feeling great and finished the first 50 miles (which was 60 miles for us because of our two detours) with plenty of energy to continue. (By the way, we actually passed four people before the halfway point.) We took a 45 lunch break and then started the second 50 miles.<br /></div><div>As we started, I was happy to see that only the first 17 miles were uphill and figured it would be easy riding going downhill for 33 miles. What we didn't realize was that the uphill on the second half was twice the climb as the first half. When I was about 2 miles from the top, I started to cry and then couldn't breathe. Rick and I stopped for about 10 minutes so I could catch my breath again. (We had been passed by several of the SAG wagons informing us that the rest stops and the support vehicles were ending soon -- yes, we were WAY behind schedule.) We told them not to wait for us and that we would be fine (or so I hoped). <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323983182839916946" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9GE1IEtXo6d7x75bphpbiOyKDlUzRO4pwHKCBjEkywis6tB7jRVzXjQr8mAZOfyCYLcdnKPfaXaj-6Xyi65x5b0qgMOd0kvIJlE4m2bmX5BpB0bLa3Ha1qZ6OmivOTw4GhEOOfbNxmHYl/s320/P3280055.JPG" border="0" /></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323983188633886562" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJ9TQTWkVik6RdyBRlNSPxg_hXDKuPNyL9ndNH01JmCfFHcEwPBYr6TAcbwOxWLlcsolDuAfdBdhMweInB4qqYEvUx7d-xxO07k9G5Civ1fG7wS0uD7nbkHzlHpJjHRm_KO8a994ODiPJm/s320/P3280060.JPG" border="0" />After reaching the top, we hit a flat area then a VERY steep downhill that required <em>constant</em> brakes. That was for about 1/2 mile, and then there was no more downhill! So, my 33 miles of anticipated coasting turned out to be 33 miles of constant pedaling. My legs ached, my neck was stiff, and my right knee started to give out. I barely made it back, but I did! We rode 107 miles total in about 8 hours (averaging 13.1 mph). That was way behind what we hoped, but we knew that we weren't in great shape and we were both packing an extra 20 pounds or so that didn't help. We're hoping to tackle another couple of centuries this year, and hopefully we'll be in better shape for them. Maybe even the STP (Seattle to Portland - 200 miles) -- hmmmm, we'll see about that one.<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323983532696128226" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgavAw7TtdDJE6Z3V9ivzgRuVweSC2Ng2rJqc87400zPBaPy9xcnxNTDFybjGXJFDPHius1tcaFBhTiqTI3gaDs9CEF_VUaO1bV_Oeqmn7rSs2sowcz5VfR_9fKXYLqpBhYUsaO-Myd86R9/s320/P3280064.JPG" border="0" /></div>Theresa Halversonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03598990677627850413noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8838749141398657923.post-8180778366395972792009-04-05T16:00:00.000-07:002009-04-12T18:45:16.154-07:00Happy 20th Birthday Kendall! To my oldest daughter, Kendall -- Happy 20th Birthday! I love Kendall for so many reasons. Believe it or not, she's probably more like me than any of my other kids. She is very stubborn and headstrong and doesn't like to be pushed around. When she makes up her mind, her mind is made up -- meaning that she will stick to her convictions. Because of that, she is trying hard to live her religion even when no one is watching. I love to peek around the corner and watch her as she reads her scriptures because she will do it just because it's right -- not because someone is watching.<br /><br />Kendall is very athletic and adventurous. She ran on the varsity cross country team in high school and runs for exercise at home. She could outrun any one of us, blindfolded! It's amazing how fast those little legs can go! Kendall is also my most adventurous child. She hikes, backpacks, camps, swims, wakeboards, and snowboards. She's almost always the first to try something new, no matter how scary it seems.<br /><br />I'm very proud of Kendall and love her dearly. I will miss her very much when she goes away for college next week! Here are a few fun pictures below of Kendall:Theresa Halversonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03598990677627850413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8838749141398657923.post-24441339726552439542009-04-05T15:30:00.000-07:002009-05-03T21:14:47.387-07:00Kendall Growing Up<div><embed src="http://widget-93.slide.com/widgets/slideticker.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" quality="high" scale="noscale" salign="l" wmode="transparent" flashvars="cy=bb&il=1&channel=3458764513835472531&site=widget-93.slide.com" style="width:400px;height:320px" name="flashticker" align="middle"></embed><div style="width:400px;text-align:left;"><a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3458764513835472531&map=1" target="_blank"><img src="http://widget-93.slide.com/p1/3458764513835472531/bb_t021_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide1.gif" border="0" ismap="ismap" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3458764513835472531&map=2" target="_blank"><img src="http://widget-93.slide.com/p2/3458764513835472531/bb_t021_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide2.gif" border="0" ismap="ismap" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3458764513835472531&map=F" target="_blank"><img src="http://widget-93.slide.com/p4/3458764513835472531/bb_t021_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide42.gif" border="0" ismap="ismap" /></a></div></div>Theresa Halversonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03598990677627850413noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8838749141398657923.post-5038072508574701992009-04-03T07:04:00.000-07:002009-04-12T18:44:06.539-07:00So much to blog, so little time!I'm feeling a little overwhelmed right now because I have several things I'd like to blog about, but since we were gone for a week for spring break, my work load backed up and is huge, plus I have taxes to deal with, two kids leaving for college next week that I have to help prepare, a yard that needs to be "de-winterized", and a house that won't clean itself.<br /><br />Spring has finally sprung and I LOVE that! We have a pidgeon that built her nest right outside our front window and has two baby birds growing in that nest. She built her nest there last year, too, but something got to her eggs before they hatched (we think maybe a cat), but this year she is successful! They are fun to watch grow.<br /><br />Kendall had her 20th birthday on March 28th, so that will be my first blog that I will catch up with. (I'm a terrible procrastinator, I know.) We celebrated in St. George, Utah while we were on spring break and took her to a really nice Italian restaurant. The waiter wouldn't sing to her, so we all sang to her. Some other tables applauded us. It was pretty funny!<br /><br />Aaron and Kendall are leaving in a week for BYU-I and I'm feeling a little weird about it. It's been so nice to have all my kids home for the past several months. I know it's all a part of growing up, but there's also the growing pains that go with it. I know they will both do really well on their own, but I will miss them terribly.<br /><br />So now I will move forward with my blogging...Theresa Halversonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03598990677627850413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8838749141398657923.post-56085592817009135562009-03-23T18:37:00.000-07:002009-03-24T06:27:45.305-07:00Headwinds, 11 Cents, and Energy GelRick and I have our first century (100 miles) bike ride this week, and we are desperately trying to get ready for it. We needed to get one more long ride in today to condition our bodies, but of course, the weather was terrible for riding. We rode up and over Clodfelter towards Plymouth with a 15 mph headwind going up that long, long hill (and some much stronger gusts). It never fails -- we always encounter headwinds when we ride. There was one point on a very steep stretch where I was only going 4.2 mph!! I probably could have gotten off my bike and pushed it up the hill faster than I was riding.<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316606439341243186" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 248px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNjggqMyiWdkpv3ZMtcXyVtJTmJLyYQSITbg4xcf99MAGd0gL1RRswvgpXBld5tD57ADl6lNWwNj-7t-r0_8vUdwfo-UT1TlZ3Hv4pQ896U3mpva06oADUbfJ8Rct9LBKf4LjMbLhrSxPT/s320/flag2.jpg" border="0" /> <div><div><div>When I was going up that steep stretch, I noticed a penny on the ground and then a dime. Anyone who knows me knows that I <em>always </em>pick up pennies when I see them. I was struggling so hard riding up that hill that I didn't stop to pick up that 11 cents. It was killing me to pass it up, but I knew it would have been too difficult to get started again. Rick even slowed down when he saw the money thinking I would stop to pick it up. </div><div>Going back down the hill, I hit a top speed of 42 mph going down that stretch that slowed me to 4.2 going up. 10 times faster! What a rush! (Take THAT Clodfelter!) When I got to the point where the money was, I was still going around 30 mph and didn't have the heart to stop for that 11 cents. (Can you tell it still bothers me that it's laying in the road just waiting to be found?)<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316603450181677890" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 293px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtwdIzciPRU3txNaaoWlEc1lCQ87QmN6UZWI8EQJ2cdQmFKjo5BBPOXxKcytEQmNzWcynGlr3nzww_YfmKJfVJFkGGBX6Gi8t535h9US2ELpx-pFnaSnSYlT8V6mQzE_e8SJ2f3uWyJzCG/s320/IMG_2426+copy.jpg" border="0" /></div><div>Now, here's the energy gel story: Rick made his own homemade version of "Power Gel" with brown rice syrup, black strap molasses, honey, and a little salt. It tastes like liquid black licorice and was almost sickening when I first tried it, but now I'm used to the taste and it gives me the BEST instant energy. Plus, it's so much cheaper than the store brands.<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316603455850874290" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxfjby0OlkoDTyunNamKqNZnqjHTm9yJWLnBRT_4hZ1E7uM_md34rd-VvLN6324ITTWNqd_ahsm93gz43GlfGRcXC1fVdjZ7ImkaqCq9XkB1P9PdUq6sZWNgvS17iMxiopgFVa1bvkiC1F/s320/IMG_2424.jpg" border="0" /></div><div>We rode for 3 hours today, and I could have kept going and going. The good news is that I think I'm ready for our century ride this weekend!</div></div></div>Theresa Halversonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03598990677627850413noreply@blogger.com4
